im 18 years old and i have no job/monthly income. I live in a house with my parents, will i be able to get a credit card

Hello everyone, i have a question about Credit cards?

Before you consider even getting a credit card, i want you to consider my story and i hope it helps you to do the right thing.

A few years back, i decided to do the adult thing and get a credit card. At the time, it seemed like a good thing. The plan i made was that i would use it in cases of emergency and i figured that since i already had a job and was working, i could afford to pay a few bills here and there when it came in the mail.

Then reality set in.

In 2000, i got my first credit card and didn%26#039;t start using until 2001 when i landed a job as a summer intern at Compuware. I was doing fine with it until my summer internship was up and i was forced to look for another job. The days got longer and my nights got tougher because i kept wondering how i was going to keep up these credit card payments with no income coming in.

Needless to say, i did find something else, but it was too late. Because of this, i%26#039;m stuck with some debt that i have to pay off forever, all because of a job loss. Having a credit card is a huge responsibility. If you don%26#039;t manage it well, it%26#039;s going to manage you by damaging your credit rating. My advice to you is to simply take it one day at a time and hold off on a credit card. Don%26#039;t get a credit card unless you have a career established and some monthly income coming in. You live with your parents, and there%26#039;s no shame in that. I lived with mine for a long time. If you don%26#039;t have any income, the worst thing to do is to go out and charge a bunch of stuff to your card and you have no way of paying it back!

It%26#039;s not a question of whether you%26#039;ll be able to get a credit card, because you will. If you%26#039;re over 18, you%26#039;re in line for one already. But the real question should be %26quot;If i get a credit card, will i be able to keep up with the MONTHLY bills RIGHT NOW?!%26quot; If you live with your parents and have no income, the answer is NO.

Why don%26#039;t you get a debit card instead? Debit cards are just like college grants as opposed to credit cards which are compared to loans. The difference? With debit cards, once you purchase something with your debit card, it%26#039;s yours and you don%26#039;t have to pay anything back or worry about a monthly bill. The closest you may get is a monthly statement from your bank or credit union. With credit cards, if you purchase something with them, you HAVE to pay them back! Go to a bank or credit union in your area and see about getting a debit card.

I hope this helps you out. Good luck to you and make the right decisions!

Hello everyone, i have a question about Credit cards?

I doubt it, but you never know.

Hello everyone, i have a question about Credit cards?

you can lie... my sister did it and they gave her a card. the problem is. what the heck would you need a credit card for if you wouldnt be able to pay it??? please get a job first

Hello everyone, i have a question about Credit cards?

Generally speaking, you%26#039;ll need to %26quot;work your way up%26quot; the credit-card chain so to speak and start building credit. You probably won%26#039;t be able to get a full credit card that you can use everywhere (like a Visa, Mastercard, Discover, etc.) right away. Start out with store credit cards--like Target, Old Navy, etc. When I was first building up my credit and applied for a Best Buy card, they automatically asked if I%26#039;d like to apply for a %26quot;regular%26quot; card with the bank that issues the card for Best Buy and I was approved. I also had a bit of credit already, but it might be worth a shot.

You might also want to look into a secured card. This is a card where you put %26#039;x%26#039; amount %26quot;down%26quot;--say $4000--and this will be the amount of your credit line. If you miss a payment or %26quot;default%26quot; they have the $400 you originally deposited in order to cover the balance of the card. I believe that the money is generally refunded after a year of good payments, but that would depend on the terms of the bank issuing a card. Try googling %26quot;secured credit card%26quot; to see what banks are offering them and what the terms are.

Hello everyone, i have a question about Credit cards?

You may- most credit card companies want their customers to have a job- why? because they are more likely to get their money back from someone who has income coming in. On most applications they;ll ask typical questions like

who%26#039;s your employer

how much do you make annually, etc

Anyway you just might even without a job.

Take my advice- if you get a credit card be RESPONSIBLE with it, because actions that you do no may effect you later!!!!
